In 1990, Alexandre and Patricia de Mortillet made their dream happen by getting back to their roots... farming grapes and producing wines, following in his 2 times great grandpa Henri Mares footsteps in 1844.
In Pignan, close to Montpellier, is the beautiful vineyard surrounded by garrigue vegetation and old olive trees, facing the Mediterranean sea: known as
Domaine de la Prose
In 2000, a perfect troglodyte cave was built by Alexandre.
In 2018, the adventure continues...Alexandre and Patricia are launching a new sublime wine: Clos Mortillet
This extraordinary wine is the result of Alexandre's great experience and wisdom, "mother nature's whisperer".
Biodynamic Culture
A full and lively soil to grow healthy organic grapes is Alexandre's number one priority: "Excellent wines are made of excellent grapes"!
No mystery here: No pesticides, no fertilizer and no weed killer.
The biodynamic culture is his utmost objective.
Clos Mortillet is set on a plateau with Holm oaks, far away from the roads and in a pure natural setting where flora and fauna are thriving.
Harvested Exclusively
by Hand
The grapes are hand picked, carefully placed in a box, plus a double triage is performed choosing the best grapes, first on the vines and, second before entering the wine process.
The traditional vinification (conversion of grape juice into wine by fermentation) is ageing in concrete vats.
The Wines
The average age of the vines is
42 years old.

A 2.5 acres Mourvedre vineyard plot is scheduled to be a great addition in 2022.
At an altitude of 360 feet, the Jurasic Villafranchian clay-limestone Terroir produces very rare wines with an exquisite delicacy.
